Remember Those Disposable Dehumidifier Pellets? Ivation's renewable mini dehumidifier works in similar fashion, just many times better and with no used up pellets to discard. Our little 8" x 2 ½" x 5 ½" device is packed full of silica gel crystals. They are non-toxic and odorless pebbles that safely and effectively absorb moisture from the air in their vicinity. Silica gel crystals have better dehumidifying abilities - with far greater absorption rates - than that of traditional soluble humidity-absorbing products. They are also reusable, which means lower long-term costs as well as less waste. How Does It Work? As ambient temperatures reach higher levels of relative humidity (RH), the silica gel crystals start absorbing moisture from the air. The more moisture they absorb, the less blue they become. The crystals gradually change to a light pink color, as can be seen in the device's little window. Fully pink crystals mean they are full of water and need to be "recharged." Depending on the area's moisture level, a fully charged dehumidifier unit should last an average of 30-60 days before the crystals turn fully pink. How to Recharge/Renew? What happens when you plug in the set cord is as follows: A gentle power draw from the wall outlet delivers a bit of heat to the compartment of the gel crystals. Because the heat is from an electrical source, it contains no humidity or moisture whatsoever. The crystals therefore slowly heat up, releasing their accumulated moisture into the air. It is very important that you place the dehumidifier in a well-ventilated area, preferably next to a window, as you don't wish for the moisture to reenter the air from which it pulled it in the first place. After about 12 hours, the gel crystals turn blue again and the dehumidifier is as good as new.
